April is Financial Literacy Month — a perfect time for students to sharpen their financial skills and take control of their money. NC State offers several resources designed to help students learn how to budget, save and build a strong financial future. Whether you’re just starting your financial journey or looking to fine-tune your money management skills, these workshops offer valuable guidance to boost your financial literacy.
Why Financial Literacy Matters for College Students
Financial literacy is the foundation for making smart money decisions. It’s about more than just saving and spending — it’s understanding how to manage debt, invest wisely, and plan for future goals. For college students, financial literacy is especially important because many are already dealing with financial stress, including the challenge of balancing tuition, housing costs and student loans.
College is often the first time students have to manage their own finances, and without the right tools, it can be overwhelming. Research shows that financial stress can impact mental health, academic performance and overall well-being. Understanding how to budget, minimize debt and plan for post-graduation financial stability can reduce stress and lead to better long-term outcomes.
By developing strong financial habits now, students can build a solid foundation for future financial success — whether it’s paying off student loans, building an emergency fund or even starting to invest.
