Wellness Wednesday: Finals Frenzy Fix — Your Wellness Toolkit for Success

Finals week is here, and while cramming might seem like the only option, taking care of your body and mind is the real key to success. NC State offers plenty of resources to help you stay balanced, so here’s your Finals Frenzy Wellness Toolkit — packed with De-Stress Fest essentials that give you everything you need to power through exams while keeping your stress in check.

Fuel Your Focus

Your brain needs the right fuel to function at its best. Instead of relying on energy drinks and late-night fast food, grab nutrient-rich snacks like fruit, nuts or yogurt from the Pack Essentials Pantry. Need a quick, healthy bite on campus? Stop by Talley Market for smoothie options or protein-packed snacks. Staying hydrated is just as important — carry a reusable water bottle and refill at hydration stations across campus.

Looking for more ways to stay fueled during finals? Stop by the Well-Fed Wolf event on April 25 at Fountain Dining Hall, where the Wellness and Recreation crew wants to hear how you’re staying well-fed — both physically and mentally — during finals week. Grab some free giveaways and pick up nutrition tips and meal ideas to keep your energy up and your focus sharp!

Move to Manage Stress

Exercise isn’t just about staying in shape — it helps boost energy and reduce anxiety. Even a 10-minute walk around Lake Raleigh or stretching at the Wellness and Recreation Center can make a big difference. Looking for a structured way to de-stress? Drop into free yoga sessions at Research Building IV (multiple dates in April, 12:30–1:15 p.m.) to enhance your physical well-being and mental clarity. Need a break from studying? Join a group fitness class to get moving with friends and relieve some tension.

Prioritize Sleep

All-nighters might seem like a good idea, but sleep is crucial for memory retention and problem-solving. Aim for at least 7-9 hours of rest so your brain can process all that information. Quality sleep helps improve concentration, mood and overall performance, so don’t underestimate its power! To sleep better, try setting a consistent bedtime, limiting screen time before bed and creating a relaxing nighttime routine. Even simple habits like dimming the lights, practicing deep breathing or listening to calming music can make it easier to fall asleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

Breaks That Boost Productivity

Instead of mindlessly scrolling on your phone, give productive procrastination a try! Take a break that helps you reset — stop by the De-Stress Express event on April 24 at James B. Hunt Jr. Library for a limited-time giveaway of exam essentials, including KIND snacks and mood-boosting teas.

While you’re there, grab tips on how to create a stress-free study environment to keep your focus sharp. Need a furry friend to brighten your day? Head to Pause for Paws, also on April 24 at D.H. Hill Jr. Library, where you can spend time with therapy animals and take a much-needed mental break. Finals can be overwhelming, but stepping away for even a few minutes can help you return to studying with fresh focus!

Paint Away the Pressure

Looking for a creative escape? Whine and Design is the perfect way to unwind! Join Wellness and Recreation during De-Stress Fest to paint your stress away while enjoying snacks and light refreshments. No artistic skills needed — just come, relax, and leave with your own masterpiece! Taking time for creativity can help reduce stress, improve mood and give you a much-needed mental break.

Stay Connected & Ask for Help

Finals can feel overwhelming, but remember — you don’t have to go through it alone. Reach out to friends for study sessions, take advantage of NC State’s Academic Success Center for tutoring, or visit Counseling Services if you need extra support. Talking things through with someone can help ease stress and keep you motivated.

Finals don’t have to be all stress and no self-care. Use these wellness tools, take breaks, and remember — taking care of yourself is the smartest study strategy of all.
