World-Famous Glass Artist Instructs Honors Students Not to Fear Mistakes

When the participants of a short-term spring 2025 Study Abroad program traveled via vaporetto (an Italian public water bus) from Venice’s historic city center to the neighboring island of Murano to observe a glass-blowing demonstration, they had no idea they would be honored with the opportunity to meet one of the most beloved and renowned glass artists in the world.

Where In The World Has The University Honors Program Been?

The University Honors Program (UHP) has continued the tradition of exploration that began with the University Scholars Program’s Cultural Explorations trips nearly twenty five years ago.

Honors Program Student Spotlight: Valerie Hoyos

University Honors Program (UHP) third-year student Valerie Hoyos, has never wavered from her first year commitment to the Political Science degree program with a concentration in “Law and Justice.” 

An HON 398 student presents her contributions to the final course project, a digital photography exhibit the class hosted in Hunt Library to raise awareness for Puerto Rico's continued struggles to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Maria, which made landfall in 2017.

Honors Seminars In Action: ‘Puerto Rico After Maria’

The University Honors Program (UHP) strives to develop global citizens, connecting students with communities both local and beyond. In the Spring of 2024, Maru Gonzalez partnered with the UHP to combine travel with a thought-provoking Honors Seminar that encouraged students to embrace advocacy and growth mindsets.

Reflecting on Growth: The University Honors Program’s Senior Portfolio Project

To highlight the importance of reflection in personal, professional, and academic growth, the University Honors Program (UHP) has introduced the senior portfolio project. Since its pilot in the Spring of 2022, 83 graduating seniors have submitted digital portfolios as the final step toward earning University Honors Program recognition upon graduation.
