The finish line is in sight as we approach the end of the spring semester. Whether you’re preparing to graduate, enter the workforce or continuing on your educational journey, there’s plenty to do to feel confident and comfortable in this exciting but overwhelming time! Here are a few things to keep in mind that can help you make the most of the rest of your semester.
Graduation Checklist
If you’re part of the Spring 2025 graduating class, make sure you’ve reviewed the Graduation Checklist to stay on track with key steps like completing your degree audit, ordering your regalia and preparing for the big day at Carter-Finley Stadium. For full event details, visit the Spring Commencement page.
Putting Your Best Paper Forward
Career transitions start with a solid resume and cover letter. Today, most companies use Applicant Tracking Systems to screen resumes, so clear formatting and relevant content are key. The Career Development Center offers resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, and job search support for both students and recent grads.
NC State students can also use tools like Quinncia, which provides helpful feedback on your resume, cover letter and even mock interviews. It’s especially useful for ensuring your materials match the job description and are easy to read through an ATS. If you’re working on a resume for a research position or a more technical role, Overleaf is another free tool that helps you build clean, professional documents using LaTeX templates. It’s a great option if you’re applying for roles that prefer more structured formatting.
Making Connections That Count
Networking happens across all levels of campus life. Whether you’re a student preparing for a job fair or a faculty member encouraging professional growth, connection is key.
The Career Development Center regularly hosts career fairs open to students and alumni across disciplines. Attendees can explore job and internship opportunities, talk with recruiters and practice professional communication. The Career Fair Plus app provides employer previews and scheduling features to help make the most of the experience.
If you’re exploring jobs or internships or guiding someone who is, ePACK is a helpful place to begin. It’s NC State’s career portal where students and alumni can find job openings, sign up for events, and schedule career advising appointments. It is also a useful resource for faculty and staff who are supporting students, especially with opportunities connected to the Research Triangle area.
For those in the College of Engineering, the ECE Alumni Mentoring Program provides a space for students to connect with alumni professionals for monthly conversations. These mentor relationships can provide support, industry insight, and long-term career guidance.
Presenting Your Best Professional Self
Keeping your professional profiles up to date can make a big difference. Whether you are looking for jobs, supporting someone else or growing your network, tools like LinkedIn and ePACK can help. A complete LinkedIn profile helps recruiters find you and shows off more than what’s on your resume. Meanwhile, ePACK connects students and alumni with jobs, internships and events, especially opportunities in the RTP area across a wide range of fields.
If you need a professional photo for your LinkedIn or ePACK profile, there’s a free self-service photo booth in Pullen Hall. It is available to students, faculty and staff and is an easy way to improve your online presence. For those in tech or engineering, a GitHub profile can showcase your projects and coding skills. Recruiters often check GitHub to see your work and coding skills. Employers often use it to see real examples of what you can do.
Enjoy the Journey
As we wrap up the semester, it’s just as important to care for your well-being as it is to plan for what’s next. Events like Altered State offer a fun, substance-free way to learn about wellness and risk reduction. This year’s event includes live music, games, snacks and opportunities to connect with others in the NC State community.
If you’re interested in creative ways to unwind, Howl and Chill: Whine and Design is part of the De-Stress Fest series hosted by Wellness and Recreation. This event gives students a chance to relax through painting, enjoy mocktails and snacks, and take home their custom canvas. You don’t need any art experience — just come as you are and enjoy the break.
Whether you’re attending to recharge, reflect or just take a break, these moments remind us that wellness is part of the journey, too.
