‘Career Boot Camp’ Connects Wolfpack with Potential Employers
On January 13, NC State’s Career Development Center hosted “Career Boot Camp,” providing more than 1,000 attendees with keys for success in the job market.

To help students navigate the unpredictable job market and job searching during a pandemic, NC State’s Career Development Center hosted “Career Boot Camp,” a two-hour webinar providing students with the proper tools to ensure career success post graduation.
The event clearly drew plenty of interest, since more than 1,000 people registered from five different countries. Engagement was high as well, with over 100 questions being asked during the Q&A section.
The webinar was hosted by Marcy Bullock, Director of Professional Development and covered a number of different topics, ranging from “overlooked problems on your LinkedIn profile” to “10 innovative ways to impress employers in a virtual interview.” There was a vast number of expert panelists and speakers as well, including: Sarah Wild, career counselor for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS); Courtney Mulveney, career identity coach for CHASS; Jeff Sacharoff, director of career services for the Wilson College of Textiles; Anna Vellegia, director of Alumni Career Services; Brian Newton, director of the Poole College of Management Career Center; Glenda Darrell, career counselor for the College of Engineering; and Kathleen Fenner, director of career and academic advising for the College of Design. Select NC State alumni were also present, as well as professionals from Google, the Department of Justice and Oscar Healthcare.
Attendees praised the event for being a helpful resource in a difficult time. Joshua Babich said the event “provided a fresh perspective directly integrating the changes of the market.” He also touted its effectiveness, stating that “even the best athletes in the world need a coach… it just takes one evening to watch this and begin deliberately taking steps in a direction that works for you.”
