Wellness Wednesday: Hidden Gems of Wellness and Recreation
As a major health and fitness hub of NC State, Wellness and Recreation offers many programs and services to help you foster your well-being. Take time to discover some of the lesser-known, hidden gems of Wellness and Recreation.
Live Visitor Count
If you have ever visited the Wellness and Recreation Center during peak hours, you know picking the right time of day to work out is important. It can be frustrating when most fitness equipment is in use or space is limited to do your own workout. The live visitor count feature is the perfect tool to use when planning your next gym visit, as it allows you to see how busy different spaces of the facility are at any given moment.
Fitness Basics
Once you time your trip right, your next challenge may be not knowing where to start. Wellness and Recreation houses four floors of cardio and weight equipment, 11 indoor basketball courts, two pools, fitness studios, a Climbing Center, indoor track and more. With so many options available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or get lost in the building, but Fitness Basics has the solution. These free, 30-minute orientations are available to all students and members to help you understand how best to utilize the equipment, spaces and programs we have to offer.
Inclusive Spaces
Wellness and Recreation is committed to fostering innovative and inclusive programs, services and facilities that are accessible for every member of the Wolfpack community. Accessible fitness equipment is available throughout the facility, as well as ADA compliant lifts for both the 25-yard and 50-meter pools. Single occupancy locker rooms on the first floor and a personal health room on the second floor are available to users for privacy and comfort. Five private fitness studios, equipped with TV’s, Echelon mirrors and equipment, are open for booking or drop-in use. If you are in need of additional support, accommodation requests can be made through our member services.
Active Study Space
With so many responsibilities and commitments to balance on a college campus, Wellness and Recreation wants to ensure you make both movement and academics a priority. The active study space, located on the second floor, includes exercise balls, treadmills and bikes equipped with desks and charging outlets for those seeking a quiet place to study.
Guest Passes and Family Recreation
Wellness and Recreation welcomes family and guests of our students and members. Guest passes are available for purchase at the main entrance or online for current members. Current students and members may sponsor up to three guests per day. We also offer dedicated family recreation hours for dependents under the age of 17 to access our basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor track, Climbing Center and Aquatic Center at no additional cost.
