WKNC honored for design work

WKNC DJ Emma Bookhardt won second place for promotions and advertising in the Edmund C. Arnold Chapter of the Society for News Design at Michigan State University annual student design contest. Bookhardt hosts “Reel-to-Reel” on WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1.

Student radio station WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 continues its tradition of teaching marketable skills on air and off, as Emma Bookhardt earned second place in a national design contest.

Bookhardt, a rising third-year student studying English and communication, hosts the weekly radio program “Reel-to-Reel,” described as a “love letter to movies through music.” Three designs she created for the program earned second place in the promotions and advertising category in the Edmund C. Arnold Chapter of the Society for News Design at Michigan State University annual student design contest.

The contest features categories such as art and illustration, sports page design, world’s best designed student magazine and promotions and advertising.

WKNC typically fairs well in the contest, also earning honors for promotions and advertising in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2023.
