Student Media Raises $5,100 from Day of Giving

NC State Student Media raised more than $5,100 from 71 donations during NC State’s seventh annual Day of Giving.
The Technician Century Fund, established in 2020 to celebrate the newspaper’s 100th anniversary, saw 26 donations totaling more than $2,000. Most recently, the Technician Century Fund supported student travel to the National College Media Convention in New Orleans.
The WKNC Enhancement Fund, now in its second year, raised nearly $2,000 from 20 alumni, faculty/staff, students and friends of the radio station. “WKNC is the best radio station in the Triangle and I am proud to support it in this small way,” alumnus Aharon Segal commented with his donation.
Donations to the WKNC Enhancement Fund have purchased a new audio console and speakers for the WKNC HD-1 studio. Money raised this year will be used to upgrade the station’s podcast studio.
WKNC’s video content creator Josie Lacey created video testimonials featuring current general manager Rose Kelley and incoming general manager Sarah Hernando along with a thank you video to donors.
The Student Media Enhancement Fund, which supports the entire department, received 25 gifts totaling nearly $1,100.
“Thank you for your continuing efforts to share news stories and keep the free press alive! We need it more than ever these days,” wrote the Reed family with their donation.
Among other things, this fund provides a small financial award to the annual winner of the Dean Phillips Award for General Excellence.
Student Media also participated in challenges throughout the day, winning the Head Start Challenge for $1,000 in bonus funds for DASA and qualifying for $260 for The Nubian Message and another $260 for WKNC in the #GivingPack Passion Match Challenge.
Across the entire campus, NC State received 18,565 gifts totaling $50,563,357 during the 2025 Day of Giving.
