Packapalooza™ Caps Off Wolfpack Welcome Week

Packapalooza™ returned to Hillsborough Street and wrapped up a very successful Wolfpack Welcome Week to kick off NC State's 2023-24 school year.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, NC State students, faculty, staff and members of the Raleigh community flocked to Hillsborough Street for the 2023 edition of Packapalooza™. The popular festival marked its 11th anniversary and returned to the Wolfpack Welcome Week schedule for the second straight year after COVID shuttered the festival in 2020 and 2021.

More than 90,000 people attended this year’s event. Additionally, hundreds of vendors and performers were on hand and delighted the crowds, featuring musical headliner David Cook. 

Per tradition, the night ended with a fireworks display and the illumination of the Memorial Belltower in red. 

Packapalooza™ was the grand conclusion of NC State’s 2023 Wolfpack Welcome Week, but participation numbers were also high at other signature events this year, including:

  • First-Year and Transfer Student Orientation: 7,056
  • University Housing Move-in: 9,689
  • Moonlight Howl and Run: 3,000
  • Talley Takeover: 1,700
  • New Student Convocation: 4,200
  • RecFest: 8,000
  • Black Students Board Back 2 School Jam: 750
  • Student Involvement Fair: 5,000
