NC State’s Cassandra Jenkins named Advisor of the Year

[lead]The National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) has recognized NC State Residential Leadership Coordinator Cassandra Jenkins as their 2017 Advisor of the Year for the South Atlantic Region. [/lead]

This is the third time the NACURH has selected Jenkins for an award after she was also selected as the Advisor of the Month for July and December 2017.

“Hopefully, my students take away everything that I taught them this year,” said Jenkins, “To use their voice for good, support your fellow students, be polite and kind, and work hard together.”

Jenkins describes her experience of joining a residence hall association during her time as a student at East Carolina University as a defining moment. The passion she says she witnessed from those individuals trying to make an impact on their home and community lead her to the professional career of residential leadership.

Awarded to those described as having made outstanding contributions to their organization, nominator Holly Perry says Jenkins is always providing immense support by listening and providing advice for her needs.

“She works incredibly hard to support her student leaders as they work hard to grow their respective organizations,” said Perry, “I can say I’m not sure what I would do without Cassandra. NC State is truly blessed to have her.”

After only a year at NC State, and with a slew of accomplishments under her belt, Jenkins hopes to continue to Think and Do great things on a national level as these awards, plus others won by her department, will move on to the national competition level. Jenkins says they hope to bring back more recognition for NC State’s residential leadership program during the national conference in May 2018.
