Fall 2023 First Term Survey Results Available

The DASA Assessment office is pleased to share the quantitative results of the fall 2023 First Term Survey. The survey is administered every fall and spring semester to new first-year and transfer students. 

The survey was distributed to 5,557 new first-year students and resulted in a 34% response rate (N=1,906); the survey was also distributed to 1,442 new transfer students and resulted in a 25% response rate (N=345). Students received the survey six weeks into their first term at NC State.

What resources/information would you have liked to know more about in the first few weeks/month of classes?

Thirty-three percent of first-year respondents said that they would have liked to know more about exploring careers and majors in their first few weeks of the semester (Table 20). Thirty-nine percent of transfer respondents said they would have liked to know more about finding an internship or co-op (Table 13).

Confidence in Abilities

First-year students are most confident in their abilities to find their way around campus, use online course management systems, and use MyPack portal. First-year students are least confident in their abilities to use the Navigate Student app, cope with stress by identifying and implementing healthy stress relief strategies, and to effectively manage their time (Table 23).

Transfer students are most confident in their abilities to contact an instructor, utilize MyPack Portal, and to choose the right major. Transfer students are least confident in their abilities to use the Navigate Student app, connect with other individuals at NC State, and to identify tutoring support (Table 16).
