Drake Receives Seven Seals Award
The director of Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services was recognized for “meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.”
Nick Drake, director of Jeffrey Wright Military and Veteran Services, was recently presented the Seven Seals Award for his continued leadership and support of the National Guard and Reserve.
The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and is presented at the discretion of the state chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The Seven Seals Award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative or support that promotes and advances the ESGR mission, to include the efforts of the more than 3,000 volunteers who carry out ESGR’s mission across the nation on a daily basis.
Drake specifically received the award “for meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.”
“I am grateful to Ken Oppenheim, area chair of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, for his organization’s recognition of Nick’s outstanding commitment to and support of those who have a military affiliation, including veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and their family members,” said Lisa Zapata, senior associate vice chancellor for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. “Nick does incredible work right here on the NC State campus to foster a supportive community and make our military-affiliated students feel at home and part of the Wolfpack.”
In addition to his role at NC State, last fall Drake took company command of A Co., 1-252 AR BN, one of four armor companies in the North Carolina National Guard. Prior to command, Drake has held numerous positions with the North Carolina National Guard including battalion assistant S3 (operations and planning), executive officer, tank platoon leader, and scout platoon leader. He has over 16 years of military service between the Army Reserve (2000-2010) and Army National Guard (2015-current), with multiple mobilizations and deployments including Operation Enduring Freedom (2003-2004, Texas), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007-2008, Iraq), and Operation Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve (2019-2020, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait).
