The staff of the University Honors Program wishes to extend their congratulations to the graduating class of 2023! You’ve worked hard to achieve your goals at NC State and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Special recognition goes to Claire Sholar, graduating University Scholar and Animal Science major, for speaking on behalf and in encouragement of her fellow graduates during the Senior Recognition Ceremony for Honors & Scholars Program graduates on Tuesday, Dec. 12! She was nominated as the student speaker for the lasting impacts she made during her time living and working in the Honors Village.

During the December graduation ceremony, Maria Almeida was recognized for earning the Alex Miller Outstanding Student Award, which recognizes a graduating program participant who has exhibited a significant commitment to the Honors and Scholars community and its students — someone who has had a real impact in the community and left it better than they found it.

Although she was not able to be present at the recognition ceremony, she was presented with the award during an alumni event held at the Aloft Raleigh Hotel in November.

Connor Thonen-Fleck was awarded the Richard L. Blanton Outstanding Capstone Award, which recognizes an exceptional Honors Capstone project and encourages the highest levels of undergraduate scholarship and research at NC State.

Connor’s Capstone, entitled, “Evaluation of Static Hindlimb Weight-Bearing and Spontaneous Pain in Two Mouse Models of Osteoarthritis (OA) Pain,” was nominated by his faculty mentor and Professor of Surgery and Pain Management, Dr. B Duncan Lascelles.
