Imagine a small city of thousands where everyone simultaneously needs textbooks, or they are losing their room keys or seeking directions to their first class. At the heart of this organized chaos are the eight University Housing service desks. They are the central nervous system of campus living and the support that keeps the residential experience moving forward. 

While many see a service desk as a simple counter, the data tells a different story. It is a high-volume logistics hub that processes mail, keys and inquiries. As of the Last Day of Classes (LDOC) for the 2025-26 academic year, our teams have processed a staggering 160,256 packages. 

Across the university, different communities saw varying levels of activity. West Campus led the way with 34,996 packages, closely followed by Central Campus with 32,269. Whether it is the 8,398 packages at Avent Ferry or the 22,341 at Wolf Ridge, every single scan represents a resident staying connected with friends and families. 

Our mission goes beyond logistics. It is about navigation and process support. “Stay informed, stay connected” isn’t just a slogan, but a standard. To ensure every resident feels supported, University Housing priorities streamlined navigation, essential procedures and safety first. Behind every package notification and spare key is a dedicated team of professional staff and community assistants. 

This year, the operation was powered by 96 community assistants (CAs), four service desk supervisors and a graduate assistant. Managing over 160,000 items while maintaining a smile and providing directions requires more than just organizational skills, but commitment to community. They are professional problem-solvers who ensure that no matter what you need, your service desk is the place to go!
