WKNC up for national awards

Student radio station WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 was honored at two national conventions for excellence in audio and video production.

West Coast Butt Magic,” directed by WKNC content creator Cliff Jenkins, was a finalist in the Digital Shorts category (a creative film no longer than three minutes) in College Broadcasters, Inc.’s Visual Media Festival. Jade Dickinson, Andrew Evans, Jackson Greene and Eric Walz assisted with the video.

Now in its second year, the festival “provides an opportunity to recognize and exhibit student work in the areas of film/video production,” according to CBI’s website. This is WKNC’s first time recognized in the Visual Media Festival, held Nov. 1 during CBI’s National Student Electronic Media Convention in St. Louis.

WKNC also received earned two Pinnacle awards at the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association Fall National College Media Convention Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Washington, D.C. Former production manager Andrew Evans received an honorable mention for his RadioFX app promo in the Best Radio Promo/PSA category. Laura Mooney and Carlie Anderson provided additional voices for the promo.

The station itself won a third-place Pinnacle award for Four-Year Radio Station of the Year. WKNC was previously a finalist for Station of the Year in 2015, 2014 and 2012.
