This fall, the University Tutorial Center will have a new name and a new home. The University Tutorial Center will become the Academic Success Center and move its offices and student spaces from Park Shops to a newly renovated space on the second floor of D.H. Hill, Jr. Library.

This new center is a partnership between the NC State University Libraries and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, designed to provide on-campus academic support to undergraduate and graduate students. The name and location change are also part of NC State University’s Strategic Plan to “Enhance Student Success.”

“Hill Library is a central and visible location on campus for students,” said director Barbara “Barbie” Windom. “The Academic Success Center will offer many academic support programs including writing consultations for both undergraduate and graduate students, various forms of tutoring, academic peer mentoring, and drop-in services including academic advising, career counseling, and wellness coaching. We anticipate that students will also be drawn to explore many of the library spaces and services while in the building. The center will convert to general study space after hours as well.”

Windom said one of the most exciting features of the new space is that all furniture as well as some glass walls will have writable surfaces. And, as was the case at the University Tutorial Center, all services provided at the Academic Success Center are free for NC State students.

“Tutoring services had taken place in pockets all across campus in the past due to a lack of space for programming,” Windom said. “The new center will allow us to offer all services in one central location. Students will benefit by having many options for support in one place, and they will have the opportunity to collaborate and meet others to enhance their learning experiences.”
