Autumn Mist Belk, teaching professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Studies, and Tara Z. Mullins, director of the NC State Dance Program, presented at the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science Annual Conference in Limerick, Ireland in October. The CME-certified conference unites over 500 professionals from around the world.

Belk and Mullins attended four days worth of presentations, panels, performances and workshops. They conducted their own workshop titled “Breath control for health and efficiency in dance technique and performance,” in which they shared practical application of current research on breath, breathing techniques, breath awareness, the relationship of breath to movement, and the scientific connections between breath and stress in order to promote healthy practices for dancers.
