The TRIO Pre-College and Collegiate Programs received a grant from the Goodwin Meissner Family Foundation to implement an international service learning project.
Twelve students and two staff members spent a week in La Florida, Peru, working on two houses for impoverished families. The group laid concrete, put up bricks for walls, and created the infrastructure that will ultimately lead to habitable homes for the families. While TRIO provides services to students who are themselves economically disadvantaged, we remain committed to teaching students that volunteering, at any level, is critical to their personal growth.
