Supporting Feed the Pack Is Supporting the NC State Community

Cameron Morris'23 has been involved with Feed the Pack throughout his NC State career.

For 10 years, Feed the Pack Food Pantry has helped the NC State community meet its food needs while raising awareness around food insecurity, reducing stigma and promoting an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Located in the Honors and Scholars Village Commons, Feed the Pack is helmed by a student leadership team, including public relations coordinator Cameron Morris ’23.

Private support has helped Feed the Pack expand its reach in recent years and in 2021, NC State donors found a new way to get involved through the Pantry Bowl. The Pantry Bowl is a friendly competition with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in which each university channels the momentum of a football rivalry week into a challenge to see who can rally the most gifts for their campus food pantry. While Carolina Cupboard finished the Pantry Bowl with the most gifts last year, NC State won the game. This year, NC State looks to take both titles, with the help of dedicated Wolfpack supporters. And if NC State exceeds last year’s total number of monetary gifts (674) to Feed the Pack, they’ll receive $11,000 from Perry and Susan Safran and other generous donors.

As Morris and the rest of the team prepare for the Pantry Bowl — running now through Nov. 27 — he recently took some time to share why Feed the Pack is important to NC State.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Cameron Morris, an electrical engineering major here at NC State. I’m a senior and I’m the public relations coordinator of Feed the Pack.

When did you get involved with Feed the Pack?

I got involved with Feed the Pack my freshman year, looking to find a great community. And I’ve stayed at Feed the Pack for the great people that I’ve worked for and worked with.

What was it like seeing the Wolfpack community support Feed the Pack in last year’s Pantry Bowl?

Last year, seeing donors get involved with the Pantry Bowl was a wonderful experience! I would refresh my internet browser and see that more gifts were coming in. It gives me hope that we are going to be able to continue our operations well into the future.

What would you like donors to know about supporting Feed the Pack?

Your gift supports our operations by giving us the valuable resources we need for our leadership team to continue to develop, for us to get out into the community, to have promotional resources and to afford food from our local partners.

In my three years working here at Feed The Pack, I’ve seen hard-working and diligent people use our food pantry. And when you continue to support Feed the Pack, we’re able to continue supporting them. Fall is a wonderful and giving time, and Feed the Pack needs your help so that we can meet the needs of our NC State community with dignity and respect. Thank you, and go Pack!

Update: We’re thrilled to share that NC State received the most gifts in the Pantry Bowl. We all win when we work together for the community. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort.
