As Harvey Mackay once said, “A goal is a dream with a plan.”

Mike Rose, a senior studying Applied Math and Statistics, has always dreamed of being accepted into NC State’s Masters of Science in Analytics program. He began his college career at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College when he began to set goals to achieve his dream. The Masters of Science in Analytics program is highly competitive due to its world-renown reputation and nearly 100% job placement. It provides students with practical applications of data analysis by solving real issues for companies. Mike soon joined the wolfpack for their stellar statistics program and excelled in his coursework to ensure he was a qualified applicant for the program. Mike knew he had the experience and skills needed to be accepted, but wanted to be sure he put his best application forward.

The Career Development Center provided Mike with the assistance he was seeking to reach his goal. Mary Rosage, College of Sciences Career Counselor, met with Mike numerous times to ensure his application and essay were impeccable. Mike also utilized the CDC’s professional editing service to screen his personal essay for grammatical errors. As a result of Mike’s hard work and help from the CDC, he was accepted into the program! Mike has the  following advice for fellow students: “Everyone at the Career Development Center was very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend that anyone who is taking their future seriously, whether that be for a career or for graduate school, take advantage of the resources offered.” For students interested in a specific graduate program, Mike suggests contacting someone from that department to better understand what they are looking for in an applicant. Because he did so, his application perfectly fit what the program was seeking.

Mike reached his goal and achieved his dream through his dedication and planning. The CDC staff are honored to have helped Mike along the way and are excited to help make other students’ dreams into a reality.
