The NC State Student Media Board of Directors has named Student Media’s senior leadership for 2021-2022.
The board voted unanimously to hire the following organization leaders at its March 2 meeting:
Mandy Stacy and Don Bui will serve as co-editors-in-chief of Agromeck. Stacy is a third-year English major with a concentration in literature. She previously served as a staff designer, assignments editor and copy editor for the yearbook. Bui is a third-year technology engineering and design education major who previously served as a staff designer, web editor and design editor.
Jonny Zemola was tapped as general manager of the Student Business and Marketing Office, which serves all of Student Media’s organizations. Zemola is a second-year student majoring in business administration and marketing. He previously served as a media consultant with the office.
Andrea Alford will be Nubian Message’s editor-in-chief. Alford is a third-year student double majoring in industrial engineering, and science, technology and society. They previously served as the Nubian’s copy editor.
Jaylan Harrington is Technician’s next editor-in-chief. Harrington is a third-year communication major with experience as a Technician staff writer, photographer, videographer, video editor and multimedia managing editor, and also has experience covering sports and working at Technician’s copy desk. Harrington is also a podcast content creator for WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2.
Camilla Keil will take the reins at Windhover as editor-in-chief. Keil is a second-year student majoring in arts studies with a visual arts concentration. She served as this year’s visual editor after serving as a volunteer with Windhover’s Visual Committee last year.
Finally, Maddie Jennette will be WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2’s general manager in 2021-2022. Jennette is a third-year computer engineering major whose previous posts at WKNC included DJ, local music director and daytime music director.
Each candidate for Student Media’s top positions must submit an application package and sit for interviews with Student Media’s Newspapers, Broadcast, Business Office or Annual Publications advisory boards, which include students, faculty, staff and media professionals.
Those advisory boards in turn make their recommendations to the full Student Media Board of Directors, which ultimately makes the hiring decisions. Like the advisory boards, the full 11-member board includes students, faculty, staff and media professionals.
Each editor-in-chief and general manager has full editorial control over the content of their respective outlets, and each outlet is fully student-run.
