Student Media Earns Advertising Awards

Student Media members earned eight awards from the College Media Business and Marketing Managers at its 2022 virtual convention.

Student radio station WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 and the Student Media business and marketing office took home eight awards from the College Media Business and Marketing Managers (CMBAM) at its spring 2022 virtual convention.

DJ Raney Wilson won first place in the best self promotion video ad for “Turn That Dial Magic 88 style,” a short animation promoting the radio station.

DJ Tommy Ellis earned second place in the best self promotion audio ad category for “In The Garage,” a promo for Ellis’s weekly radio program Saturdays at 4 p.m. on WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1.

Tim Werner, who serves as general manager for the Student Media business and marketing office, received third places as best sales representative. Werner also earned an honorable mention for best sales proposal.

WKNC received four additional honorable mentions:

  • multimedia director Minh Pham in the best self promotion video ad category for “WKNC’s The Lounge
  • production manager Charles Smalls in best audio ad or underwriting spot for “Cardigan Records 8th Anniversary
  • content creator Kai Vosberg in best nonadvertising multimedia program for the “Hallelujah” episode of the “Undertones” podcast
  • general manager Maddie Jennette in best self promotion multimedia ad campaign for “Listen to WKNC”
