New student athletes competing for academic success

First-year student-athletes have only been on campus for a few weeks, but they have already been exposed to many Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) departments. With the assistance of University Housing, student-athletes experienced a smooth transition into their new homes on campus. First-year Johnny Frasier explains of the move-in process, “It was exciting…I got to see a lot of new people.”

New Student Orientation provided students with an extensive look into their courses of study, while introducing them to peers in their program. Academic Support Program for Student Athletes’ (ASPSA) Academic Day ingrained in the first-years the academic and behavioral expectations they now assume as student-athletes at NC State. With the academic support of the University Tutorial Center and ASPSA, the student-athletes are ready and eager to be successful in the classroom this summer. Frasier commented that the tutoring has been helpful and “the people are nice and here to help you.” SummerSTART’s holistic approach to transitioning first-year student-athletes exposes them to many opportunities on campus. DASA continues to have a positive impact on first-year students’ transition into becoming successful members of the Wolfpack community.
