NC State Counseling Center Brings Home an Emmy

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Nashville/Midsouth Chapter, recognized the NC State Counseling Center for excellence in visual storytelling with an Emmy Award on Saturday, January 21, 2017, in Nashville, Tennessee. The NC State Counseling Center partnered with StoryDriven, a Durham-based Emmy Award-winning storytelling firm specializing in people-centered marketing videos, for the project.

The Academy recognized NC State University Counseling Center’s “#StopTheStigma” video with an Emmy Award in the Public Affairs category.  Specifically, the award is for excellence in a program or special on current issues of societal concerns, social ills, community or general public interest.

“So many of us are affected by suicide, yet we struggle to talk about it as a community,” said Daniel Goldstein, Clinical Social Worker at the Counseling Center at NC State University.  “When we asked students on the NC State Brickyard, ‘What is your story? How have you been impacted by suicide?,’ we found that students had powerful stories to tell, and that the silence is part of the problem.  Many students have broken the silence with their stories of struggle and resilience, and this video features three of them.  We are grateful for StoryDriven’s collaboration in bringing attention to this important subject.”
