NC State’s University Fellowships Office is pleased to announce that six students were awarded 2022 Fulbright Scholarships. The recipients were Elizabeth Beyer, Logan Kallam, Nada Moghazi, Dylan Bradford, Natasha Derezinski-Choo and Sandra Garcia.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program expands perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue. In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.

Elizabeth Beyer graduated from NC State in May 2022 with undergraduate degrees in biological engineering and Spanish. Thanks to Fulbright award funding, Beyer is now living in Spain and working at a public library that hosts specialized programs for residents who are interested in the United States. She serves as a teaching assistant in English courses, helps counsel students who want to study in the United States, supports cultural activities and even aids tech workshops for students. She also plans to use a portion of her funding to enroll in lessons in the lesser-known languages spoken in Spain, such as Catalan.

“To me, the Fulbright Scholarship is an opportunity to develop my intercultural understanding and communication while serving as an ambassador for the United States,” Beyer said. “I hope to use this experience to build a multifaceted, international career in my future. My education at NC State, where I was able to grow both my engineering and language interests, was the start of that career. The Fulbright Scholarship is my next step. I am very thankful for those who supported my application process, especially those at the University Fellowships Office.”
