How to Enroll in Duo

Duo Security adds Two-Factor Authentication to services at NC State that use Shibboleth to facilitate login. Shibboleth login is used across campus and in critical services, like MyPackPortal and WolfWare. When you activate Duo, you will be required to log in with both your password and then an additional security measure; such as code delivered via text or mobile app, or a push (or pop-up) notification on your smartphone.

Two-factor authentication enhances the security of your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password. This process will help you setup your account with this added layer of security. Phone Enrollment

1. Visit https://docs.shib.ncsu.edu/duoenroll/
2. Log in with you Unity username and password.
3. Click Accept.
4. Click Start setup.
5. Click Continue to indicate that you are enrolling a mobile phone.

Enter Your Phone Number

1. Enter your mobile phone number.
2. This mobile phone number should be one that can receive SMS text messages.
3. This number should not be your office number.
4. Check the checkbox to confirm that This is the correct number and click Continue.
5. Click the button that corresponds to the type of phone for the previous number you entered. Click Continue.

Smartphones

1. If you chose a iPhone or Android Smartphone in the previous section, you will be prompted to install the free Duo Mobile app on your Smartphone. Instructions are listed on the screen.
2. After installing the app, click I have Duo Mobile installed.
3. You will then be presented with instructions to activate Duo Mobile. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete enrollment.
4. After you scan the barcode, a green check box will appear over the barcode. Click Continue.
5. Congratulations! You are now enrolled in Duo!

Regular Mobile Phones

1. If you did not choose SmartPhone in the previous section, you may have chosen Other (and cell phone). Click Continue.
2. You will then be presented with your settings which have been saved.
3. Congratulations! You are now enrolled in Duo!

Using Duo

1. When logging in to NCSU services such as MyPackPortal and WolfWare, you will be presented with one or both of the following options:
2. If you enrolled in Duo using a smartphone and barcode, click Send Me a Push to receive a notification from the Duo Mobile app. Approve the notification to continue logging into NCSU services.
3. If you enrolled in Duo using a regular mobile, click Enter a Passcode. Scroll down in your web browser to see the following prompt and click Text me new codes.
4. Scroll back up and enter the code you received via SMS in the box and click Log in to continue logging in to NCSU services.
