While competing for Team USA, HES faculty Renee Harrington and Sally Almekinders both placed at the World ITU championships in Denmark this month. Renee competed in the Olympic distance Duathlon, placing 8th overall and 4th for the USA. Additionally, Renee’s picture is being used on the World ITU website, and in their press release. In her age group, Sally placed 6th in the Aquathlon and 8th in the Sprint distance Duathlon.
NC State offers a wide array of fitness and wellness classes that aim to encourage a healthy lifestyle among students. One Health and Exercise Studies (HES) Department initiative is the ‘Take 8 at State’, encouraging students to take eight credits of health and exercise studies instead of the required two.
Many of the Health and Exercise Studies (HES) Faculty have been extremely busy with traveling, training, and competing in the Duathlon World Championship in Pontevedra, Spain. More than 35 countries were represented, and among the thousands of athletes were NC State faculty members Randy Bechtolt, Sally Almekinders, and Renee Harrington.
