NC State’s Pack Essentials program and Feed the Pack Food Pantry would like to invite Raleigh community members and journalists from local media outlets to a celebration of the continued partnership between Feed the Pack and Food Lion Feeds on Monday, Nov. 6.

The event will run from 1-4 p.m. and will take place in the new Pack Essentials Hub on the first floor of NC State’s North Hall on Hillsborough Street.

Food Lion Director of Operations Delony Spraggins will present a check with a $50,000 donation to NC State Pack Essentials leaders at 1:30 p.m. That contribution has been critical in establishing the new Pack Essentials Hub, especially for procuring shelving and refrigeration units for the pantry.

“The pantry wouldn’t look how it looks today without the support of Food Lion,” said NC State Associate Director of Student Leadership Engagement Brian Mathis.

Media members are welcome to come and take pictures of the check presentation, and there will be opportunities for interviews with representatives from NC State and Food Lion afterward.

In addition, Food Lion will bring a pallet of 1,694 pounds of food, and Food Lion Feeds staff members will assist Pack Essentials staff and volunteers with stocking the pantry afterward. Media members are welcome to stay and take photos and videos of the pantry stocking.

Researchers at NC State University conducted a study and found that 14% of students at the university experience food insecurity at some point during their academic careers. The Pack Essentials Hub and the Feed the Pack Food Pantry help to address the challenges associated with housing and food insecurity for students while earning their degree at NC State.

“The partnership between the Pack Essentials Hub and Food Lion Feeds is vital in helping to provide fresh produce to members of our community while serving them with dignity and respect,” Mathis said.

Parking on Hillsborough Street near the Pack Essentials Hub is limited, so it is recommended that attendees carpool if possible.
