Dr. Mary Bengtson – 35 Years of Service

Dr. Mary Bengtson retired from Student Health Services on December 31, 2018. During her 35 years of service, Dr. Bengtson served as a provider, medical director, and laboratory director. In 1994, Mary started the Department of Physical Therapy at Student Health Services, which was cutting edge at the time. NC State was likely one of the first, if not the first, University Health Services to have a Physical Therapy Department.

For many years Mary volunteered with the Women’s Basketball team as a physician.

On February 4, 2018, Dr. Bengtson was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This award is the governor’s highest honor, given only to those who have made immense contributions to North Carolina through unparalleled service and accomplishments.
