The 2019 symposium will focus on Nourishing our Communities: Uniting Against Hunger. Students will participate in thought-provoking panel discussions, personal improvement workshops, and introspective reflection activities in an effort to discover ways to combat the issues of poverty, hunger, and food insecurity in their communities.

The 2019 symposium holds special significance to NC State University, as our campus was chosen to host the event! As the first day of the symposium approaches, Feb. 22, 2019, Leadership and Civic Engagement braces for an influx of civically engaged undergraduate student leaders from all over the country. Last semester, five NC State students were chosen via an application process to serve on our delegation and represent the Wolfpack. During the symposium, keynote speakers will provide unique insights focused on combating hunger, and students will engage in a large scale, meal-packaging event.

Although the symposium has six desired outcomes, we hope that students, overall, leave with dynamic solutions to tackle real problems that college campuses face while also improving their leadership and teamwork skills.

In the upcoming days, take a moment to reflect on the NC State 2018-2019 common reading, $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America. How have social, political, and economic forces influenced you day-to-day life?
