Friendship and Mobility Grant: Additional Funding for Study Abroad in France
The Study Abroad Office is proud to announce that NC State is one of four grant recipients of the Transatlantic Friendship and Mobility Initiative, a grant to double the number of U.S students going to France and French students coming to the U.S. by 2025. The initiative is endorsed by the Association of American Universities, the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, the Institute of International Education, and NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
The grant will provide almost $20,000 in scholarship funding for study abroad on semester and other short term programs from Fall 2015 (Deadline: Feb 1) through Spring 2016. With the Poole College of Management, a recruitment plan will be further developed for the NEOMA Business School dual degree program in Reims, France, a part of the International Partnership of Business Schools. An innovative partnership with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and their Department of Foreign Languages will allow a new spring break program in Paris to come to fruition. This program focused on French language and diversity, led by Dr. Diane Beckman, will provide a unique opportunity for student athletes and other underrepresented students to study abroad. Additionally, the grant provides funding support for high school students to participate in a July 2015 summer intensive language courses in Raleigh, where students will earn college credit and become eligible for guaranteed scholarships for study on any program in France if they go on to become NC State students. Participants will gain the language skills necessary for successful studies in France and as future PackAbroad students.
This is the second US State Department Initiative to increase the number of American students studying abroad that NC State has been successful in obtaining this year. The first was a 100,000 Strong in the Americas grant in support of NC State students studying in Costa Rica. Additional funding support for studies in Costa Rica is available through the Fall 2015 term (Deadline: Feb 1).
