Josh Privette, associate director of development for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, is the recipient of the first-ever NC State Employee of the Year Award from the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation, also known as Live it Up! Hillsborough Street.

The new award is given in gratitude for a person’s exemplary leadership within NC State University and their continued efforts to make Hillsborough Street a distinct destination in Raleigh. Privette received the award for his work in a previous role with the NC State Alumni Association, during which time he was responsible for planning Red and White Week activities along Hillsborough Street. The annual event includes the NC State Homecoming Parade, the Paint the Town Red window painting competition, and Hillsborough Street Cleanup.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award from the Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation,” Privette said. “However, like most recognitions, I have to recognize the students of the Alumni Association Student Ambassador Program and the staff of the NC State Alumni Association who were instrumental in forging a meaningful relationship with the Hillsborough Street community. Our NC State community is stronger because of our town and gown relationship with Hillsborough Street. It has always been the goal of the Alumni Association staff, students, and myself to create a meaningful experience for alumni and students that incorporates the strong ties that NC State has with Hillsborough Street.

“Many thanks to the Hillsborough Street board and staff who have worked with my team throughout the past six years,” Privette added. “I hope this is only the beginning of a strong relationship with the merchants and citizens who live along Hillsborough Street.”

Privette grew up just east of Raleigh in Wendell, N.C., and is a graduate of NC State. After earning his undergraduate degree in political science in 2013, he began working for the NC State Alumni Association with student programs, helping to build affinity for the university through programs like the Student Alumni Association, Homecoming, and campus traditions. In July 2019, he joined the Division of Academic and Student Affairs as a frontline fundraiser and alumni relations professional, where he helps guide current and potential donors on their philanthropic and engagement journey with NC State.
