Scam Targeting Students Using NC State Phone Number

Scammers are once again targeting NC State students. If you get a call from the main university telephone number (919-515-2011) and the caller asks you for money in order to restore your academic standing – hang up immediately. If you have suffered a monetary loss as a result of one of these calls and live on campus, call NC State Police at 919-515-3000. If you live off campus, call your local police department.

NC State Police has issued some tips when dealing with suspicious calls:

1. Never give out personal info over the phone or email.
2. Never give out bank/credit card info over the phone or email.
3. No legitimate agency is going to demand payment by gift cards.
