Tutorial Center Changes Name to Serve More

The Undergraduate Tutorial Center has long been at the forefront of go-to resources for NC State students in need of tutoring and writing assistance.  Over the past 35 years, the Undergraduate Tutorial Center has been a continually evolving hub for academic support, but until recently services were offered only to undergraduate students. Recognizing that the need for tutoring services is not limited to undergraduate students, the Undergraduate Tutorial Center has undergone a name change. The new University Tutorial Center is pleased to extend its reach to include both undergraduate and graduate NC State students.

The University Tutorial Center provides undergraduate students with free drop-in, appointment, and web-based tutoring for math, chemistry, and physics classes, as well as one-on-one writing and speaking support. For courses which have historically proven to be difficult for students, Supplemental Instruction is available. During these sessions, students work in small, interactive groups facilitated by student leaders. In addition to being an excellent way to prepare for exams, participation in Supplemental Instruction helps students gain a conceptual understanding of their coursework.

Graduate students will receive assistance with any non-exam related writing through the new Graduate Writing Center. This may include course work, grant proposals, or cover letters. The Graduate Writing Center is by appointment only.

Students will find additional information at tutorial.ncsu.edu, including tutoring options for other academic programs, links to on-campus resources, and useful study skills tips. Supplemental Instruction sessions begin on August 25, 2014. Writing and Speaking Tutorial Services and the Graduate Writing Center will open on September 2, 2014. The University Tutorial Center is located at 101 Park Shops.
