Momentum Building for NC State/Habitat for Humanity Project
Fundraising for “Build-A-Block”, a multi-home building project led by the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, is underway. NC State students and Habitat Wake are joining forces in an effort that will be the largest-ever involving a campus organization and a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
Construction of 11 homes will begin in August of 2016, when the NC State community raises the first wall on the record-setting building project.
The effort expands upon Habitat Wake’s long-standing relationship with the campus chapter at NC State, and will provide unprecedented opportunities for volunteerism and support. Wolfpack students, faculty, staff and community members will work alongside Wake County families to build homes and raise awareness around the need for affordable housing!
The campus chapter is already beginning to hammer away at an ambitious fundraising goal with efforts like “Shack-A-Thon”. Over the next year, $715,000 will be raised to fund construction of the 11 townhomes to be built on a Lake Wheeler Road site.
The enthusiastic support of Chancellor and Mrs. Woodson has set the pace for success.
All campus community members are invited to get involved and find ways to support Build-A-Block. Those interested in learning more about the vision of Build-A-Block and opportunities can attend any one of the upcoming information sessions.
